WHEELBARROWS
Over the past few months we have been browsing the web looking at various training forums that mention stuff from our site. From what we’ve found a lot reference the videos, of which Stair Wars appears to be most popular. One question I have noticed that is asked of it is what real benefit does doing plyometric pushups up stairs really have except for great entertainment value. Well, this article will attempt to tell you just that.
A wheelbarrow is a simple form of what you have seen in these videos, basically where you start in pushup position, have a partner hold your legs and you ‘walk’ on your hands, so it appears as if your partner is pushing a wheelbarrow. Most people believe that this becomes a major upper body workout, and it can be if you don’t do them correctly. You see to be able to ‘walk’ any great distance, let alone up stairs, does not require massive arms or shoulders, but instead a good, stable, straight body. The only way you can achieve that my friends, is through having a strong core. Whilst wheelbarrows do have a number of great secondary benefits, (stronger wrists, endurance for the arms) their primary benefit is to develop core strength through having to keep your body straight. As soon as your body slouches all the weight transfers upward onto your arms, making it a hell of a lot tougher, more uncomfortable and impossible to do some of the things below.
