One Armed Depth Push Ups

One armed push-up - brutaltrainingOne of the exercises I was most impressed with in Ross Enamait’s books was the one armed depth push up. I had always been able to do one armed push ups but never could go passed about half way down. So, like the manic obsessive I am, I began training to perform this great exercise.

Progressions

I found the ubiquitous Step Reebok that you find at any fancy pants gym to be extremely useful in having an adjustable height platform to work with. The basic premise is to perform the full one armed press on an inclined angle an then lower the height.

So let’s say I started with a Step that was 5 steps high. Initially I would lower myself to the bottom of the press with both hands until my shoulder was touching my hand. From there the idea is to press to the top only performing the upward half of the motion.
