Build your own washing board: Killer core strength exercises

Core strength exercisesPick up any men's' health and fitness magazine these days and I bet that on the cover there is some line like "You can have that washboard stomach in 7 minutes a day". There is a lot of hype as to how to get your abs into shape but remember they are not one muscle but a series of muscle groups. Not one exercise will work them all so only doing sit-ups will not do you much good. And whatever you do don't forget about your back, it needs love too.

When working out in this area I am a big believer in that old cliché of quality not quantity. When performing each exercise you should isolate and keep under tension the muscle group that should be doing the work, for the whole range of motion and for the whole set.
