One Rep

Situps are still our theme as we continue to explore the philosophy and application of breathing to training. This time, however, we are moving away from endurance based work and onto single rep applications.

Once again you’ll need a partner or at least somewhere to brace your feet. Then go and grab a stack of the biggest plates you can find at your gym. In my case that’s a 50lb plate.

1. Begin by placing one 50lb plate across your chest as you assume a situp position at the bottom of the arc, with your back resting on the ground. Either your feet are anchored or your partner is holding them down.

2. Perform a situp to the top.

3. The motion is to be performed within an exhale. Similar to last issue, you begin your exhale ‘before’ you begin your situp. You must continue to exhale all the way to the top.
