The Great Drug Debacle
By Anne Spranklin RN
Let me start by saying that medication does have a role to play in the modern health care system. Many of the diseases people suffer from today are the result of our western industrialized way of life.
Unfortunately many of the drugs now available are being used and abused to keep people in the sedentary, toxic and “modern” lifestyle we have come to know and love. Relying on medication to “fix” an illness is like putting a band-aid over a leak in the fuel line of your car – again, again and again, every time you drive. If your mechanic told you this was a reasonable solution to the problem, you’d fire him (or her).
Yet most people will not question their doctors about whether or not writing another prescription to “fix” another problem is a reasonable solution. When all you’ve got is a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Before you pop that next pill, do you really know exactly what you’re taking and what it does to your body? No? Well you’re not alone. Chances are the company that made your saviour in a capsule doesn’t know its mechanism of action either. All pharmaceutical companies can tell you what their drugs do. What they don’t know is the sequence of events occurring in your body to bring about these results.
The role of drugs is to buy you time; they are a band-aid solution to illness. The long-term solution is to eliminate toxins, eat properly and exercise. Medication can simply keep you ticking over till dietary and lifestyle changes kick in.
