Being True To What You Do
By Angry H
There are many other ways to express the above statement such as ‘being true to yourself’ or ‘honestly expressing yourself (Bruce Lee)’. And as Bruce Lee says, this is very difficult to do.
Most of the activities that people are performing (and people means you) are no more than a form of escapism. Training, coaching, playing competitive sport and reading this web site are for most simply means of escapism. Take our illustrious forum for example. Very little actual valuable content is posted on there. But for those that find it, it is considered a treasure. For the most part the forum is used as a place of mindless ramblings, another form of escapism.
Escapism from what?
Let’s revise our first statement. Let’s call it ‘being true to your Self’. People are so ignorant of their true nature that they immerse themselves in things trying to find that which they already are. You see you just can’t be silent. You just can’t sit there and breathe and marvel at the wonder that is you. Instead you have to talk, email, Facebook, argue, train hard and generally keep moving as fast as possible to avoid facing the real you.
You see the real you is not your self-image. You have become addicted to your opinions, who you think you are and have made the mistake of thinking you have some kind of control over the reality of life. This is all illusion. When you can accept that life expresses itself through you rather than you express life then you will free yourself of the bonds of mindless, incessant thinking and constantly relating your self to others trying to gain some sense of self.
How does this relate to what you do?
There are a few people that perform what they do in an artistic manner. They are inspired, intuitive and spontaneously creative. In short, they are in touch with their greater Self that part of you so mysteriously lacking in so many lives. This makes what they do ‘sincere’. They allow what they do to take place through them rather than locking up their thoughts and actions as products of their ego self. Most of the people that come to Brutal or post on the forum, or compete in sports are insincere. I don’t mean not genuine or having some kind of agenda I mean unaware of their true nature.
But they continue because they are inquisitive and don’t even know why. Keep training hard, playing sport or writing crap. But eventually it will end. You will no longer be able to play, to coach, to write. One day you will be faced with death. And then you will have to be quiet for once. And the spectre of your true self will emerge. But it will be all too late. Your new found wisdom will be out of time.
Ask not what will I do here but rather what needs to be done. You have been given gifts, use them. You have been given opportunities, take them. You have been given a life, live it. But do not take illusory control and become a beast of the ego.
Your life is not your own to claim…
Your actions are not your own to claim…
Stop f*cking kidding yourself for a second that you know what’s going on, that you know what you’re doing, that you know who you are and that you know where you are going.
