Jungle Training Part 1

Jungle Training will be a 3 part series of articles and challenges. It is a representation of how my own training is evolving and the challenges I am testing and trying out on myself.

Jungle Training is not separate from Brutal Training, but instead born from the fires of it, it is simply the way my own training has evolved.

There are lots of inspirations I look to and test the ideas, workouts and routines on myself. I test and try things myself to find my truth. The Brutal archives, Ross Enamait, Bud Jefferies, Crossfit, Bruce Lee, my own experiences and many other resources have provided ideas and inspiration for the way I train.

One of my greatest inspirations however does not come from the health and fitness world, it comes from the world of literature. ‘Tarzan of the Apes’ and all the Tarzan novels, and The Jungle Book have captivated my imagination and shaped not only the way I train, but the way I live. Looking at the characters Tarzan and Mowgli, they have always been to me the epitome of true warriors, the type of characters I strive to become. Without any guidance they became true warriors, they find themselves, find their own truth and develop courage and spirit beyond belief, they develop true love. By being a mirror to their surroundings and mimicking the best qualities of the creatures that display to them, they become physically and spiritually unmatched; they become warriors that shine brightly from the crowd, masters of themselves. They find the truth that exists in nature and experience the force of nature that they are.

The Foundation – The Challenge

The hardest part of the Challenge is to find fluidity of movement. We are seeking to be graceful, strong and agile like Tarzan and Mowgli. We seek to feel the spirit of nature and the beasts of the jungle. We need to lay a foundation, we need to break down the limits that our body and mind have about the way we move, about our strength, about our will and spirit.
