Champions aren't made in the gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them -- a desire, a dream, a vision.

Mind Games

Welcome to another new section of the Brutal website: Mind Games. Here we will be exploring how to use / not use the mind to help you combat both your opponent and yourself. This section will aim to evolve you as the athlete into more than just a physically proficient, technically gifted craftsman of your sport and turn you into a true warrior, one that will have no problem taking your opponent on with the confidence that you cannot just beat them, but break them as well.

In sport at a professional level quite often it is not the skills of the individual that wins the day, it is instead who is the mentally toughest that prevails. Too often, athletes come onto the scene with all the skills in the world yet lack that ability to win. Most people put it down to lack of experience, they haven’t learnt how to yet. Well why not prepare yourself just as hard in this aspect as in everything else that is needed. Why not train your mind too?

Before we look at combating our opposition we need to first look at our own psyche and how to best prepare ourselves.

Your opponent, in the end, is never really the player on the other side of the net, or the swimmer in the next lane, or the team on the other side of the field, or even the bar you must high-jump. Your opponent is yourself, your negative internal voices, your level of determination.
