Mind Games in this edition looks at the power of belief and more importantly the power of believing in the goals you set. Goal-setting is paramount to being able to succeed in whatever endeavor you choose to undertake and is especially the case on the sporting field. Having said this, it is one thing to set yourself goals that you believe attainable and another to set yourself goals that you believe aren’t possible. Often goals that don’t seem attainable are those that you really want to achieve. You have the desire to achieve them, but don’t really believe they are possible, never quite reaching them. What can we do about that? Hopefully this article will help you.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill is a book that helps develop the mindset needed to reach your goals and help you to believe that anything is possible. The ethos is pretty simple. If you desire something, all you have to do is truly believe in it and it will happen. Easier said than done, right? Well there’s a process that you need to go through to help you to start to truly believe. This process is brought on by autosuggestion. Autosuggestion is the process of continually reminding yourself of what your goals are, writing them down and reading them out so that all of your senses can absorb them. Whenever you’re unsure about what you are undertaking remind yourself of your goals and state them in a way that you are sure of them. As long as you continue to think positively about your goals, they will come true. At any stage, if you feel negative, you must block out the negative thought with a positive one. For example if you state you cannot win from here, you won’t. Instead tell your mind to shut up and be determined to give it everything you’ve got. Sure you’re down at the moment but that doesn’t mean the game is over. “ I can win from here” must be what you tell yourself.
