Go for the kill!
One thing that has always irritated me and other sports fans alike is how often you see your favourite team take a lead by playing in a really great, positive way and then seem to try to hold that lead for the last little bit of the game, changing their style and as such losing it most of the time. This scenario happens in just about every sport and has been happening for as long as I can remember. The idea is that once you have a lead all you have to do is hold it and you’ll be proclaimed the winner. Soccer seems to be the sport that encapsulates this the best. How often do you see a striker replaced by a defender towards the end of a game when that side is winning? What these teams fail to realize was that it was the style/game plan they were playing that got them the lead in the first place and by changing that they’re risking not playing to win anymore. Generally it is teams that play to win that do, teams that play to not lose that don’t. That is where the whole problem lies.
The style of game a team plays directly reflects on the individuals’ mind set in that team. If they choose to play in a manner that they believe will win the game and they can execute to that style they will win nine times out of ten. This style was normally determined way before the start of the match and as such has manifested itself into reality.
All winning teams are goal-oriented. Teams like these win consistently because everyone connected with them concentrates on specific objectives. They go about their business with blinders on; nothing will distract them from achieving their aims.
