Getting over the finish line

One of the hardest things to do mentally in any professional sport, especially for the first time, is to get over the finish line, win the game. It is at this stage that your mind becomes most aware of what is going on and tries to attach itself with how to win. When you let this happen it generally creates conflict with what had been working for you to get you there in the first place and then problems start to arise. This article is going to go into techniques that we can all use to try to break that conscious mind from taking over and letting you flow until the end, something that will hopefully help you get that much-deserved win that you’ve been craving for.

Playing professional beach volleyball and also coaching many aspiring professionals I can honestly say that the last couple of points are always the hardest to win, especially when the game is close and even more so when it would be a victory that gets you something that you haven’t achieved before. This is because you become so attached to wanting the outcome that you tighten up, trying to control the result rather than letting it just happen. Everyone has been through it and it doesn’t just apply to sport in that regard, it applies to life in general. Pressure is a bitch, and it is always you letting the pressure get to you. Now I am not saying that the following is a sure fire way of alleviating these problems but they are definitely techniques that are going to help get you there. At the end of the day though it will be up to you to find your own path.
