ANGE CREWE
Pro Beach Volleyballer & Doctor of Osteopathy

ange creweYou were the first Brutal Athlete we talked to. That was almost a year ago now. You have been training harder than anyone else we have come across, beach volleyball or otherwise, and the results are more than obvious. What has been happening since we spoke last?
I played the season. I played with Crystal Green. I could only play in two qualifiers because of Uni exams, but came very close to making it in Manly. It was a great experience going up there. We also played in the Q’LD Open, and stayed up there for ten days. Staying up there was probably the best thing I could have done because the National Champs were on and there were so many people around training. So therefore I got to train with quite a lot of athletes, legends like Pauline Mancer, Chinese girls and a couple of other international girls.

We then played on the Vic tour and pretty much came third every week, but did get one second. I won the Good Friday tournament, my first AA win, with Tamsin. Then I pretty much went straight into off season without any real break. I was accepted into the Victorian High Performance Beach Volleyball Squad. The focus of that for me was basically to hit with and against the best girls in Victoria, consistently. Brutal Training is also involved in the squad. Haydn and Clay run a session once a week. You can’t really compare it to what we used to do at Friday night Brutal, but everyone still works hard so it’s good. It is not truly Brutal because all the elements aren’t truly there, but it’s more general preparation training. But I think the results from that will begin to show.

The biggest thing I’ve been doing in the gym was building my shoulder because I always get an injury at the end of the season. So its feeling really good now, so fingers crossed.
