PETER HAYTON
Water Skier, Beach Volleyballer, Businessman
When did you start Brutal and why?
I started Brutal probably about 8 months ago and I don’t know where the inspiration came from. Someone mentioned it and at that stage I was trying to improve my beach volleyball. I decided that I either had to improve or give up and I came down to one session and it nearly killed me. So I thought it had to be good for me, and just continued on since then.
What was the initial appeal that kept you training?
I started on Wednesday then moved to Sundays as well. The motivation, working with Haydn and Chris, you’re being pushed the whole time and the harder you push, the better you feel. Even on days when I’ve been absolutely destroyed after work and have been ready to go to bed, I’ve come in and the first 10 minutes are tough, but after that you just crank through it and afterwards you come out feeling brand new.
It’s always been good. There has only really been once that I had a bad day and went into the tunnel. But other than that, I love it!
Have you had much experience with the mental / spiritual side of Brutal?
Quite a bit. I’ve done quite a bit of meditation myself and things like the power of positive thinking etc, and I think most of Haydn’s philosophies fit into what I’ve already learnt and strengthens it. I guess that’s the key to life, staying positive, creating your own destiny. A positive attitude attracts like-minded people and filters down through your life from there.
