Alien Mind Control

Very occasionally I have the joy of watching mindless television. It so happened that on an inauspicious night in the middle of the week I was watching ABC TV’s Catalyst science program. The particular segment of interest was entitled Alien Control and to be very frank, completely blew me away.

Here’s the gist of the story.

There’s a microbe called a Toxoplasma tachyzooites and it’s the infective stage of a parasitic microbe.

“In its juvenile stage it invades and develops inside the muscle or brain of any mammal or bird … to reach its adult stage, it then needs to be eaten … by a cat.”

So let’s be very clear about this particularly strange life cycle of this microbe. It has to be eaten by a cat in order to reach its adult stage.
