Alien Mind Control Pt.2

evil sheepOur resident medical scientist and Brutal exponent from Germany Marc Wermke (see profile 29) recently emailed me with some more information on those little bugs controlling our every thought and behaviour.

“Haydn, another little gem I found concerning alien mind control: the larvae of Dicrocoelium dendriticum tend to wander into the brain of ants and adheres to the nerves that control the mouth parts of the ants. Now again comes the freaky part. These ants are then 'forced' to wander up a blade of grass and bite into the end of it and spend the night there, making them an easy prey for sheep. Sheep are of course the final host of the little rascal Dicrocoelium dendriticum. If the ant is not eaten it returns to its nest, only to resume its behaviour the next night... Yet scientists are unsure how all this really happens. Do the parasites imitate neurotransmitters? Force the host to excrete certain neurotransmitters? Some neurotransmitters are apt to enhance risky or aggressive behaviour, curiosity etc.
