Black Belt Coaching
Back in the days of my youth I spent a great deal of time pursuing martial arts of various forms. I had many teachers all of which provided me with valuable knowledge. One teacher in particular Master Raoul Kent was my greatest inspiration as a teacher and mentor. He taught me a number of arts including Ashihara Karate, Japanese Jui Jitsu and Kodokan Judo. It was during my time under his tutelage I was introduced to the concept of modern martial art belt rankings and the responsibility that goes with having a rank.
We were always taught by Raoul that, when sparring, you never crush a student of lesser ability but, rather spar at a level just out of their reach in order to help them advance. I have found this concept of nurturing extremely valuable as a coach.
